Affirming Commitment through the Declaration of Panca Mahadharma B-GAAD

The Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Bali once again established itself as a central hub for higher education in the arts and design within the Asia–Pacific region through the Bali–Global Axis of Arts and Design (B-GAAD) II 2025, officially opened on Tuesday (October 28) at the Kirtya Sabha Mahottama Auditorium, ISI Bali. This year’s B-GAAD carries the theme Tutur–Bhuwana–Tuwuh (Myth–World–Memory), emphasizing the significance of myth as a living body of knowledge that shapes human wisdom and civilizational identity.
The Rector of ISI Bali, Prof. Dr. I Wayan Adnyana, stated that B-GAAD represents ISI Bali’s initiative to establish a strategic international platform for the actualization of ideas, connecting higher education institutions in art and design across the Asia–Pacific region. “B-GAAD is not merely a meeting forum but a melting ground of ideas, concepts, and visions that strengthen Asia–Pacific solidarity toward new innovations,” he remarked.
This year, B-GAAD II is joined by eleven universities, three art institutions, and one government organization from across the Asia–Pacific region, including: the National Academy of Arts, Culture and Heritage (ASWARA), Malaysia; Kazakh National Academy of Choreography; Lasalle College of the Arts and Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA), Singapore; Phetchaburi Rajabhat University, Thailand; University of Western Australia (UWA); Kyoto Saga University of Arts and Okinawa Prefectural University of Arts, Japan; University of Iowa, United States; Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam (JKKNI) University, Bangladesh; and Hankuk University of Foreign Studies (HUFS), Republic of Korea. Additional support came from the Agung Rai Museum of Art (ARMA), Komaneka Art Gallery, Misato City, Japan, and the Wiswakarma Museum, Gianyar.
In his opening address, the Rector underscored that mythology—as articulated by Edith Hamilton in Mythology: Timeless Tales of Gods and Heroes (1969)—reflects the way humans have thought and felt since ancient times. Through mythology, humanity rediscovers its profound connection with nature—with the earth, sea, trees, flowers, and hills—a relationship that has gradually faded in the modern age.

As a manifestation of its commitment to strengthening networks of collaboration and sustaining academic excellence, B-GAAD II produced the Panca Mahadharma B-GAAD Declaration, titled Caksu–Bhuwana–Citta (Noble Vision for Shining Futures), signed by leaders and faculty members from art and design higher education institutions across the Asia–Pacific. The declaration articulates five core missions:
To strengthen partnerships for the advancement and sustainability of academic excellence;
To commit to community welfare and social responsibility;
To collaborate in preserving culture and local heritage;
To actively participate in maintaining ecological balance; and
To foster creativity and technological innovation in the arts and design.
The declaration was signed by prominent leaders and academics, including:

A series of B-GAAD II activities took place from October 27 to 31, 2025, across multiple venues both on and off the ISI Bali campus. The event encompassed a wide range of international programs, including the Bali–Global Arts and Design Symposium (B-GADS), Bali–Global Performing Arts Map (B-GPAM), Bali–Global Art Map Exhibition (B-GAME), Bali–Global Innovative Design Map Exhibition (B-GIDME), Bali–Global Encounter Figure (B-GEF), Bali–Global Authentic Trip (B-GAT), B-GAAD Leaders’ Summit, and the Bali–Global Expo and Job Fair (B-GEJF).
The opening event was enlivened by the World Cultural Carnival, which interpreted the theme Myths–World–Memories through an artistic parade involving all undergraduate, applied bachelor’s, and postgraduate programs of ISI Bali. The occasion also featured the launch of the book and art projectBali–Global Encounter Figure (B-GEF) #1: Unveiling Borrowed Light, a collaborative work by Prof. K. Azril Ismail and Azrul K. Abdullah from ASWARA Malaysia, in partnership with the Agung Rai Museum of Art (ARMA).
As part of the B-GAAD II series, a Woodcut Workshop conducted by Prof. Paul Trinidad from the University of Western Australia was also held for ISI Bali students, enriching the cross-cultural and artistic exchange through shared techniques and creative dialogue. (ISIBALI/Public Relations)
JATILUWIH, TABANAN – The Product Design Study Program, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Indonesian Institute of the Arts Denpasar (ISI Bali), carried out a Tri Dharma of Higher Education activity in Jatiluwih Village, Penebel District, Tabanan Regency. This community service program was conducted to empower the Tridatu Jatiluwih Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) Group, focusing on branding development and packaging design for red rice tea — a specialty product made from Cendana red rice, a unique variety found exclusively in Jatiluwih.
“We aim for red rice tea to be recognized not only as a healthy beverage but also as a cultural ambassador of Subak,” said Ni Luh Desi In Diana Sari, the project leader of this community service activity.
The program was implemented through collaboration between lecturers and students of the Product Design Study Program. The participating lecturers included Made Gana Hartadi, Ni Wayan Sri Wahyuni, Genial Nabilaisyah Firdauzi, and Ni Ketut Pande Sarjani.
Exhibition of Red Rice Tea Packaging Products by Tridatu Jatiluwih SME
The packaging design for Jatiluwih Red Rice Tea was developed using a local wisdom–based design approach. The community service team assisted the partner in creating packaging that is not only visually appealing but also reflects the cultural identity of Jatiluwih. The design emphasizes cultural elements such as the Subak irrigation system and the terraced rice field landscape, both recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The packaging integrates visual elements including mountains, the contour of tiered rice terraces, and traditional matekap (traditional plowing field) activities, combined with a natural color palette and comprehensive product information.

Through a dissemination activity held on Sunday, October 19, 2025, at the UNESCO Monument in Jatiluwih, international tourists gave highly positive responses to the event. Many visitors expressed that the new packaging design of Jatiluwih Red Rice Tea felt more authentic, meaningful, and worthy as a distinctive local souvenir that truly reflects the uniqueness of Jatiluwih — a destination recently awarded Best Tourism Village 2024 by UN Tourism.

In addition to packaging design, the team also provided training on hygienic packaging techniques, eco-friendly paper bag production, and digital promotion strategies for members of the Tridatu SME. It is hoped that this product will become a sustainable creative economy icon, strengthening Jatiluwih’s position as a culture- and sustainability-based tourism destination.
This form of collaboration between the university and the local community reflects ISI Bali’s concrete role in supporting cultural heritage preservation while simultaneously promoting community economic empowerment through design rooted in local values.

The Indonesian Institute of The Arts Bali (ISI Bali) proudly served as the host for the 6th Indonesia Industrial Design Student Award (IIDSA) — the nation’s largest platform recognizing excellence among Product Design students across Indonesia. This prestigious event was attended by 21 Product Design Study Programs from various universities under the Forum of Industrial Product Design Study Programs of Indonesia.
The opening ceremony of IIDSA6 took place on Thursday (October 9) at the Kirtya Sabha Mahottama Auditorium, Citta Kelangen Building, ISI Bali, and was officially inaugurated by Prof. Dr. Wayan “Kun” Adnyana, S.Sn., M.Sn., Rector of ISI Bali.
In his opening remarks, Prof. Kun Adnyana emphasized the importance of strengthening the scientific foundation of product design rooted in national identity.
“Most importantly, every member of the academic community must experience the essence of Indonesianness — the awareness to embrace values, local wisdom, and the rich cultural diversity of the archipelago as the source of inspiration and foundation in creating design works. Industrial product design unites intellectual and creative spirits deeply grounded in our national culture. Congratulations to all Product Design Study Programs across Indonesia for the successful organization of IIDSA6,” said the Professor of Art History.
Meanwhile, Wahyu Indira, M.Sn., Coordinator of the Product Design Study Program at ISI Bali, highlighted that IIDSA6 is more than a competition — it is a platform to appreciate dreams and the creative journeys of young designers.
“In this event, we are not only assessing works but also valuing the dreams, processes, and dedication of young generations in creating design solutions that make a meaningful impact on society and industry. This event serves as a moment to inspire one another and strengthen collaboration among product design students throughout Indonesia,” he stated.
Furthermore, Dr. Guguh Sujatmiko, S.T., M.Ds., Chair of the Indonesian Product Design Forum from the University of Surabaya (UBAYA), expressed that the event exemplifies the spirit of collaboration between students and faculty mentors in developing relevant and impactful product designs.
“Through this event, we foster a collaborative spirit and globalize Indonesian product design so that it becomes beneficial and contributes tangibly to the nation,”he concluded.

The 6th Indonesia Industrial Design Student Award (IIDSA6) took place over two days, October 9–10, 2025, featuring a diverse series of activities including exhibitions, seminars, talk shows, project presentations, an awarding ceremony, a book launch, and a forum discussion to plan the 2026 agenda.
In conjunction with IIDSA6, ISI Bali also hosted the National Product Design Exhibition under the theme “Desain Bertutur: Merangkai Bukti, Menjaga Tradisi Nusantara” (Design Speaks: Weaving Evidence, Preserving the Archipelagic Tradition), held at the Vicon Room, 2nd Floor of the Citta Kelangen Building, ISI Bali.
The event was attended by several prominent figures in the field of product design, including Achmad Syarief, S.Sn., M.S.D., Ph.D. (Institut Teknologi Bandung), Dr. Rahmawan Dwi Prasetya, S.Sn., M.Si. (Institut Seni Indonesia Yogyakarta), Dr. Zaki Saptiar Saldi, S.T., M.Eng. (Universitas Pembangunan Jaya), Dr. Guguh Sujatmiko (Universitas Surabaya), Ira Samri, M.Ds. (Universitas Paramadina), Winta Tridhatu Satwikasant, Ph.D. (Universitas Kristen Duta Wacana), and Prananda Luffiansyah Malasan, S.Ds.., M.Ds., Ph.D. (Institut Teknologi Bandung), who also serves as the Chairperson of the Indonesian Industrial Product Design Association (ADPII) Central Board.
Through the organization of IIDSA6, ISI Bali reaffirms its role as a meeting ground for academics and practitioners in design, fostering innovation, expanding networks, and strengthening the position of Indonesian product design both nationally and globally. The Indonesian Institute of the Arts Denpasar (ISI Bali) held an inauguration and oath-taking ceremony for newly appointed structural officials for the 2025–2029 term, comprising deans and vice-deans, heads and secretaries of institutes, program coordinators, heads of academic support units, and heads of centers. The event took place at the Kirtya Sabha Mahottama Ballroom, Citta Kelangen Building, 3rd Floor, ISI Bali, on Monday (Soma Umanis, Wuku Tolu Purnaming Sasih Kapat), October 6, 2025.
A total of 36 officials were inaugurated and took their oaths of office, directly officiated by the Rector of ISI Bali, Prof. Dr. I Wayan Adnyana, S.Sn., M.Sn. The inauguration marked the conclusion of the 2021–2025 term and served as a strategic step to strengthen governance and institutional performance within ISI Bali.

One of the newly inaugurated officials was Dr. I Gede Yudarta, who now serves as Dean of the Faculty of Performing Arts (FSP), succeeding Dr. I Ketut Garwa. Meanwhile, Dr. I Ketut Garwa has been entrusted with a new responsibility as Head of the Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM) at ISI Bali.
Other officials inaugurated included I Wayan Diana Putra, M.Sn., as Vice Dean for Academic Affairs of FSP; Dr. I Made Kartawan as Vice Dean for General Affairs and Finance of FSP; and I Kadek Widnyana, M.Sn., who continues to serve as Vice Dean for Student Affairs and Cooperation of FSP.
Meanwhile, the position of Vice Dean for Student Affairs and Cooperation at the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design (FSRD) is now held by Dr. Ni Luh Desi In Diana Sari, succeeding Ni Kadek Dwiyani, M.Hum., who has been appointed as Coordinator for International Affairs at ISI Bali.

The inauguration ceremony was held solemnly and attended by faculty members and administrative staff, both civil servants (ASN) and non-civil servants (Non-ASN), who provided their full support for the smooth execution of the event.
In his remarks, the Rector of ISI Bali, Prof. Dr. I Wayan Adnyana, S.Sn., M.Sn., extended his congratulations to the newly appointed officials and expressed his appreciation to those who had completed their terms of service.
“I would like to congratulate the newly inaugurated officials. May you carry out this mandate with a deep sense of responsibility, dedication, and collective spirit for the advancement of ISI Bali. To those who have completed their tenure, we extend our gratitude and highest appreciation for your devotion, hard work, and valuable contributions throughout your service,” said Prof. Kun Adnyana.

The Indonesian Bali Art Exhibition was held at the National Choreography Academy of Kazakhstan (KNAC), the first higher education institution in Central Asia offering a comprehensive program in choreography, from primary school through postgraduate programs (Master’s and Doctorate). The exhibition took place on August 19, 2024, organized by the Indonesian Embassy in Astana in collaboration with ISI Denpasar and the National Choreography Academy of Kazakhstan. This event commemorated 31 years of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Kazakhstan, showcasing works by Indonesian artists and photographers.
The exhibition featured around 20 artworks addressing significant themes such as humanism, the interaction between humans and nature, tolerance, femininity, and the environment. Visitors could also enjoy dance performances from ISI Denpasar and the National Choreography Academy of Kazakhstan, highlighting diverse art forms, including traditional Balinese dance.
The National Choreography Academy of Kazakhstan is actively expanding its international cooperation and takes pride in its role in creating bridges between the arts and cultures of various countries. This exhibition is an important step in strengthening cultural ties between Kazakhstan and Indonesia, promoting mutual understanding and respect between nations, enriching cultural heritage, and expanding global perceptions.
The Indonesian Ambassador to Kazakhstan and Tajikistan, Dr. M. Fadjroel Rachman, stated that this exhibition is part of strengthening Indonesia’s cultural diplomacy in Kazakhstan. “This exhibition aims to introduce Indonesia’s rich cultural heritage to the people of Kazakhstan. We are grateful for the strategic collaboration with ISI Denpasar and the National Choreography Academy of Kazakhstan. We hope that the friendship between Indonesia and Kazakhstan continues to advance in all fields,” said the former Presidential Spokesperson of President Jokowi.
The Rector of ISI Denpasar, Prof. I Wayan Adnyana, mentioned that the event is significant as a symbol of the successful MoU signing between ISI Denpasar and KNAC. “This art exhibition is part of our visit to Kazakhstan, which includes the ‘Bali Night Festival’ performance at the Indonesian Embassy in Astana and the art exhibition at the National Choreography Academy of Kazakhstan. We presented 20 selected works from our faculty, both through traditional manual painting techniques and digital printing. The exhibition received positive responses from the attendees, including professors from the National Choreography Academy of Kazakhstan regarding how we express, choreograph, and configure visual elements. This exhibition also marks the education collaboration MoU between ISI Denpasar and the National Choreography Academy of Kazakhstan,” said Prof. Wayan.
The Vice Rector of the National Choreography Academy of Kazakhstan, Yessentemirova Aigul Maratovna, expressed gratitude for the successful collaboration that made this event possible. “Today, we have a unique opportunity to see Indonesia’s rich heritage, learn more about its history, traditions, and modernity through the prism of works by talented artists. On behalf of our entire Academy, I want to extend our deepest thanks to the Indonesian Embassy in Astana and ISI Denpasar for this opportunity to learn more about Indonesian art. We hope that today marks a part of strengthening the friendship between our two countries,” said Yessentemirova.
