MAGISTER OF ART
Master Program
Description
The Master of Arts Program (PS-SPM) is a continuation and transformation of the previous Master’s Program in Art Creation and Studies (S2), originally established under the Decree of the Minister of National Education of the Republic of Indonesia No. 90/E/O/2011, dated April 27, 2011. The change in nomenclature was formalized through the Decree of the Minister of Research, Technology, and Higher Education of the Republic of Indonesia No. 456/KPT/I/2018, affirming its new identity as an integral part of the advancement of art scholarship at the graduate level.
Pursuant to the Regulation of the Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia No. 28 of 2025 on the Organizational Structure and Governance of the Indonesian Institute of the Arts Bali, PS-SPM is officially administered under the Postgraduate Program of ISI Bali. This structural integration reinforces the program’s position as a center of excellence in higher education in the arts, oriented toward the integration of artistic research, creation, and the development of art knowledge rooted in tradition and innovation.
PS-SPM offers two specialization tracks strategically designed to meet both academic and professional demands in the field of art: Art Studies and Art Creation. The Art Studies track emphasizes theoretical, methodological, and analytical approaches to various phenomena in art, culture, and tradition, aiming to cultivate critical and comprehensive understanding of artistic practices within social, historical, and philosophical contexts. The Art Creation track focuses on creative processes as the core of learning, encouraging media exploration, artistic experimentation, and innovation in producing artworks relevant to contemporary developments.
PS-SPM has been awarded an “A” accreditation by the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education (BAN-PT), through Decree No. 174/SK/BAN-PT/Ak.Ppj/M/I/2023. This accreditation is valid for five years, from January 31, 2023, to January 31, 2028, and serves as evidence of the program’s academic quality, governance, and scholarly contribution in the field of arts.
