MASTER OF ARTS EDUCATION

Study Program

Description

The Master’s Program in Art Education at the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Denpasar is distinguished by its unique academic character, grounded in local culture and indigenous wisdom while embracing a universal outlook. The educational framework implemented within the program is aligned with the Indonesian National Education System and is based on the foundational principles of Pancasila and the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia. Through this educational paradigm, the program aims to produce highly qualified art educators equipped with comprehensive competencies in both the theoretical and practical dimensions of the arts.

A defining attribute of this program lies in its geographical and cultural context—being situated within the globally recognized cultural landscape of Bali. This provides an ideal academic environment for students interested in exploring Balinese arts and culture, including the traditional systems of artistic knowledge transmission. ISI Denpasar offers a unique opportunity where classical, traditional, modern, and contemporary cultural forms coexist and are actively developed in an integrated academic setting.

The curriculum of the Master’s Program in Art Education is designed to accommodate creative, critical, solution-oriented, functional, professional, integrative, and inclusive academic processes in the advancement of art education scholarship. The culmination of the program is the production of a master’s thesis that critically examines phenomena related to the education of Indonesian arts and culture, along with the various systems of cultural transmission embedded within them. The research approaches adopted in the program may include interdisciplinary, multidisciplinary, and/or contextual methodologies, all conducted in accordance with established academic standards and scientific rigor.
