DesCRIPTION

Postgraduate Program – Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Bali

The Master’s Program in Arts Management at the Postgraduate School of the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Bali was officially established by the Decree of the Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia No. 863/E/O/2023, dated 6 November 2023, regarding the Licensing for the Opening of the Master’s Program in Arts Management at ISI Denpasar.

In accordance with the Regulation of the Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia No. 28 of 2025 concerning the Organization and Governance of ISI Bali, the Master’s Program in Arts Management is administered under the Postgraduate School as the Program Managing Unit (UPPS). The primary duties and functions of the Arts Management Study Program (PSTKS) are to implement the Master’s curriculum as outlined in the Rector’s Regulation of ISI Denpasar No. 16 of 2023 on the Curriculum of the Master’s Program in Arts Management.

The program consists of 40 (forty) credits or 42 (forty-two) credits for students required to take matriculation courses, distributed over four (4) semesters. The expected learning outcomes are aligned with Presidential Regulation No. 8 of 2012 on the Indonesian National Qualifications Framework (KKNI).

The program offers two specialization tracks, strategically designed to meet both academic and professional demands in the field of arts management:

  • Arts Management Studies, which focuses on theoretical, methodological, and analytical approaches to the study of arts, culture, and traditional governance, aiming to foster a deep and critical understanding of arts management practices in their social, historical, and philosophical contexts; and

  • Creative Arts Administration, which emphasizes creative processes in the practice of arts management that are relevant to contemporary developments.

Based on the Decree of the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education (BAN-PT) No. 171/SK/BAN-PT/Ak.P/M/II/2025, the Master’s Program in Arts Management has been accredited with a “Good” rating. This accreditation is valid for two years from February 4, 2025.

      VISION

      The Master’s Program in Arts Management at ISI Bali serves as a center of excellence for the development of knowledge and practice in the management of Indonesian arts, design, and culture, with the aim of producing expert, character-driven, outstanding, and reputable graduates.

      MISSION

      • To develop knowledge and practices in the governance of Indonesian arts, design, and culture based on research that contributes meaningfully to both society and academic advancement, while gaining national and international recognition.

      • To solve problems in the field of arts, design, and cultural management in Indonesia through interdisciplinary or multidisciplinary approaches.

      • To demonstrate the ability to manage Indonesian arts, design, and culture in an innovative and evidence-based manner.

      Graduate Profile

      Researcher

      A knowledgeable, ethical, outstanding, and reputable arts, design, and cultural governance scholar, projected to become a curator, consultant, critic, educator, or researcher, with the following competencies:

      • Able to apply advanced knowledge and technology as a problem-solving paradigm in research and development activities;

      • Able to utilize acquired knowledge as a foundation for advancing the governance of arts, design, and culture;

      • Capable of conducting research and development activities in accordance with scientific procedures, including the development of research tools, instrument calibration, data collection, and data analysis aligned with research objectives; and

      • Competent in disseminating research and development outcomes that contribute to society and scientific knowledge, while achieving national and international recognition.

        Expert in Arts Governance

        An expert in the governance of arts, design, and culture, projected to become an entrepreneur, manager, auditor, and/or archivist in various platforms such as events, festivals, production houses, galleries, and outlets—both conventional and digital—with the following competencies:

        • Able to plan, organize, administer, market, document, and evaluate professional activities, events, or enterprises in the fields of arts, design, and culture; and

        • Capable of establishing and developing institutions in the governance of arts, design, and culture that are character-driven, excellent, and reputable.

          Dr. I Wayan Agus Eka Cahyadi

          I Wayan Agus Eka Cahyadi was born in Ubud, Gianyar, Bali on August 12, 1984. He completed his undergraduate studies in Fine Arts at the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Yogyakarta in 2007. In 2010, he pursued a Master’s Degree in Visual Art Studies at Gadjah Mada University (UGM) Yogyakarta. He was appointed as a lecturer in the Visual Communication Design Study Program, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Indonesian Institute of the Arts Denpasar in the same year.

          In 2024, he successfully completed his Doctoral Program in Art Studies at the Postgraduate Program of ISI Denpasar with a dissertation entitled “Visual Narrative of Wayang Kamasan in Bale Kambang, Klungkung.” He is currently an active lecturer in both the Visual Communication Design undergraduate program and the postgraduate program, specializing in illustration, with a particular interest in visual narratives and visual language. He has held several academic positions including Secretary of the Visual Communication Design Department, Coordinator of the Quality Assurance Unit of FSRD ISI Denpasar, and currently serves as the Coordinator of the Master’s Program in Arts Governance. He is also active as an art writer and curator, and is listed as one of the curatorial team members of Sanggar Dewata Indonesia (SDI) Bali.

          Dr. I Wayan Setem, S.Sn.,M.Sn

          Born in Lusuh Kangin on September 20, 1972, with a deep passion for the visual arts. He completed his doctoral studies in Artistic Creation at the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Surakarta (2015–2018) with a dissertation titled Celeng Ngelumbar: A Metaphor of Exploitative Sand Mining. He has been actively participating in art exhibitions since 1993, both in solo and group shows, at national and international levels.

          He served as curator for the international exhibition Rong Rupa Rakta during the 12th Indonesian Art Festival (FKI XII) in 2023. He is the author of the book Kosa Rupa Bali (2021), and has published academic articles in journals such as Mudra, Brikolase, and Migration Letters. His organizational experience includes serving as Head of the Publishing Unit (UPT Penerbitan), Coordinator of the Fine Arts and Arts Governance Master’s Study Programs, and currently, he holds the position of Head of the Institute for Learning Development and Quality Assurance (LPMPP) at ISI Denpasar. Among the awards he has received are: Finalist of the YSRI Painting Competition (2000), Honored Artist by the Rudana Art Foundation, Best Graduate with Cum Laude distinction (2018), and the Satyalancana Karya Satya XX Years Medal (2023) awarded by the Government of the Republic of Indonesia.

          Prof. Dr. Drs. Ketut Muka P., M.Si

          Prof. Dr. Drs. Ketut Muka P., M.Si, was born in Gianyar on December 31, 1961. He completed his doctoral education in Cultural Studies at Udayana University in 2016, with a dissertation focused on “Innovation in Sandstone Sculpture in Singapadu in the Global Era.” Since 1993, he has served as a permanent lecturer at the Study Program of Fine Arts and Design (PSSRD), Udayana University. Following the 2023 institutional merger between PSSRD and the Indonesian College of the Arts (STSI) Denpasar, which formed the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Bali, he has continued his role as a permanent lecturer in the Craft Study Program (Program Studi Kriya). From 2010 to 2019, he served as an assessor for the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education (BAN-PT) in the field of arts. His administrative roles include:

          • Secretary of the Craft Department (2003–2010)

          • Head of the Craft Department (2010–2017)

          • Coordinator of the Community Service Center at LP2MPP (2017–2020)

          • Vice Rector for General Affairs and Finance at ISI Bali for the 2021–2025 period.

          Prof. Dr. Hendra Santosa, SS.Kar., M.Hum

          Prof. Dr. Hendra Santosa, SS.Kar., M.Hum. pursued his doctoral studies in 2014 at the Doctoral Program (S3) in Literature with a concentration in History at Padjadjaran University, Bandung. He successfully earned his doctoral degree in December 2017 by defending his dissertation entitled “Gamelan Perang in Bali (10th Century to Early 21st Century).” He is actively engaged in research and has published numerous scientific articles in both nationally and internationally accredited journals. To date, he has authored 124 scholarly works listed on Google Scholar, with 73 articles indexed in Garuda, and 5 articles indexed in Scopus. His publications appear in journals ranging from SINTA 6 to SINTA 1. In addition to journal articles, he has published 16 books, including textbooks and reference books, as documented on the SINTA portal:
