DESCRIPTION

The Dance Study Program is one of the oldest programs at the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Bali. Established in 1967 during the era of ASTI Bali (Akademi Seni Tari Indonesia), this program has played a foundational role in shaping the development of performing arts education in Indonesia. Today, the Dance Study Program operates under the Faculty of Performing Arts and has achieved an “A” accreditation based on Decree No. 5248/SK/BAN-PT/Ak-PPJ/S/VIII/2022 issued by the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education (BAN-PT).

Implementing the ISI Bali Impact Curriculum, the program offers a total of 144 credits (SKS) designed to be completed within a minimum of 3.5 years. Students are guided by experienced lecturers with Master’s, Doctoral, and Professor-level qualifications, and gain valuable learning experiences through collaborations with professional practitioners and industry partners.

The program accepts new students through the SNBP, SNBT, and Independent Selection pathways. In line with the principles of Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi (Education, Research, and Community Service), the Dance Study Program actively engages in artistic, academic, and cultural initiatives at local, national, and international levels.

With its strong commitment to academic excellence and artistic creativity, the Dance Study Program at ISI Bali continues to attract aspiring students seeking to pursue professional careers in the world of performing arts.

The vision of the Dance Study Program is to become a center of excellence in dance education, focusing on research and creation in the art of dance that is rooted in local wisdom and oriented toward a universal perspective.

Dance Study Program

I Gede Oka Surya Negara, SST.,M.Sn

I Gede Oka Surya Negara, SST., M.Sn., was born in Denpasar on January 3, 1965. He has been a lecturer in the Dance Study Program at STSI Denpasar since 1991, which is now known as ISI Bali. He completed his Master’s Degree (S2) in the field of Artistic Creation at ISI Surakarta in 2007. Among his artistic creations are: Tari Ketug Bumi (PKB Parade), Tari Gerhana Bulan Merah (Art Collaboration), Tari Bali Dwipa Jaya (Official Dance of Bali Province), Tari Kebyar Andrepati, Tari Legong Prasita, Tari Baris Sesandaran, Tari Manguwilasa, Oratorium Wadantara, Tari Padma Bhuwana, Tari Kembang Rijasa, Tari Peed Aya Dang Mredangga Siwa Nataraja, Sendratari Sindhu Sadhu Wastu, Tari Kekuwung Ranu, Tari Baris Arjuna Tapa, Tari Presisi Nusantara Polda Bali, Tari Baris Amerta Gangga, and Tari Pawai Gong Guwung Gumi. In addition to creating dance works, he is also active in writing academic publications.

I Gede Radiana Putra

I Gede Radiana Putra, a lecturer at the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Bali, was born in Denpasar on January 3, 1993. He is both a performer and creator of Balinese performing arts. Having studied dance since childhood, he has mastered various forms of classical dance, particularly the Barong dance.

He completed his Bachelor’s degree at ISI Yogyakarta in 2015 and his Master’s degree at the ISI Yogyakarta Postgraduate Program in 2017, specializing in Artistic Creation (Dance). Since 2015, he has been actively involved in community service as an arts mentor and as a creator of both classical and contemporary dance works. His creative endeavors have produced numerous choreographies, many of which have been showcased at various local, national, and international art festivals and events.

Made Ayu Desiari, S.Sn., M.Sn.

Made Ayu Desiari, S.Sn., M.Sn. (known as Dek Yu), was born in Gianyar on December 24, 1991. She has been devoted to the art of Balinese dance since the age of seven and joined the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Denpasar in 2019 as a lecturer in the Dance Study Program.

Since 2009, she has also explored vocal performance (tembang), an essential element of Balinese performing arts, which led her to focus her research on traditional dramatic dance forms such as Arja, Gambuh, and Calonarang. As both a dancer and academic, she has performed in the United States, Australia, China, and Thailand. Her artistic and research works have been presented at various national and international forums.

Mentari Varianda M.Sn

Mentari Varianda, M.Sn., was born and raised in Pariaman, West Sumatra. Her involvement in dance and vocal arts since elementary school led her to complete her Bachelor’s degree in 2015 and her Master’s degree in 2021 at the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Padangpanjang, specializing in Dance Creation and Studies, with research focusing on dance dramaturgy.

She has participated in numerous national and international art events, including in Taiwan, Thailand, South Korea, and Romania. Currently, she remains active in various art and cultural communities and festivals across Indonesia, particularly in the field of dance. In 2025, she joined the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Bali as an active lecturer.

Ni Komang Sri Wahyuni, SST., M.Sn

Ni Komang Sri Wahyuni, SST., M.Sn., was born in Tejakula on December 15, 1967. She has been serving as a lecturer since 1994, beginning her academic career at the Indonesian College of the Arts (STSI) Denpasar, which is now the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Bali. She completed her Master’s degree at ISI Surakarta in 2007, specializing in Artistic Creation. Her notable artistic works include Bali Dwipa Jaya (Provincial Dance of Bali, 2012), Politeknik Negeri Bali Ceremonial Dance (2013), Rejang Pakuluh (2016), Kebyar Andrepati (2018), Legong Prasita (2019), Bali Padma Bhuwana (2019), Oratorium WADANTARA (2019–2021), Rejang Pudak Amerta Segara (2022),  Sudhamala Ritual Dance (2024), Cak Fragment: The Coronation of Gajah Mada (SIKL, 2024), Tik Gelatik Dance (2025), Cancala – Bhuwana – Chandika Dance (2025), and Mascot Dance of Mambal Village (2025). In addition to her artistic creations, she is also active in writing academic papers in the field of performing arts.

Ni Nyoman Kasih, SST., M.Sn.

Ni Nyoman Kasih, SST., M.Sn., was born in Mas, Ubud, Gianyar on October 20, 1964. She began her teaching career at the Indonesian College of the Arts (STSI) Denpasar in 1993, which later became the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Bali. She completed her Master’s degree at ISI Yogyakarta in 2002, specializing in Artistic Creation.

In addition to serving as a permanent lecturer in the Dance Study Program, she also teaches across different faculties. Her research includes Lukat: Transformation of Reality into Digital Art and Daksa Curse Lord Siwa. She is also active in writing academic papers on topics such as dance learning strategies, the functions of traditional dance, and aesthetic interpretations of symbolism in performing arts.

Ni Wayan Suartini, M.Sn.

Ni Wayan Suartini, M.Sn., born in Kuta, Badung, is a Balinese dancer, lecturer, and performing arts creator. She masters various classical and contemporary Balinese dances and specializes in Balinese dance performance arts. Teaching since 1997, she earned her Master of Fine Arts in Artistic Creation from the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Yogyakarta. She also holds a Performing Arts Competency Certificate with a dancer qualification (2024).

Her notable works include Sandya Duhkita, Cempaka: The Sacred Ritual Flower of Balinese Society, Legong Dedari, Rejang Shanti, Murdha Nata Dahayuning Gringsing, Murdha Nata Tirtasari, and Sri Jaton Linuwih.

Prof. Dr. Ni Made Ruastiti, SST., M.Si.

Prof. Dr. Ni Made Ruastiti, SST., M.Si., is a Professor of Performing Arts and Tourism. She began her academic career at ISI Bali as a lecturer in the Undergraduate Dance Program in 1992. She earned her Bachelor’s degree from ISI Bali, and her Master’s and Doctoral degrees in Cultural Studies from Udayana University. An accomplished academic, she was awarded Outstanding Lecturer in 2018 and became ISI Bali’s first female Professor in 2021. She has received several national competitive research grants from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, including Performing Arts for the Elderly (1996–1999), Millennial Wayang Wong (2000–2003), Early Childhood Performing Arts (2001–2004), and Women Empowerment through Innovation in Tourism Performing Arts (2025–2026). She also serves as a research reviewer for LPDP (Ministry of Finance) since 2010 and for the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology since 2023. Her scholarly contributions include numerous books, intellectual property rights, national journals, and reputable international publications.

Anak Agung Ayu Mayun Artati, SST., M.Sn.

Anak Agung Ayu Mayun Artati, SST., M.Sn., born in Banjar Buruan on December 27, 1964, is a dance lecturer and artist specializing in Palegongan dance and Arja dance drama, which incorporates Balinese singing (tembang) as dialogue. She has been teaching in the Dance Study Program, Faculty of Performing Arts, ISI Bali since 1990.

Her choreographic works include Stairya Wasundari, Palegongan Sutasoma, Stuti Puja, Sasih Keenam, Ganesha Mahawira, and Murda Nata Dewi Prawrddhi. She is also an active choreographer in various ISI Bali productions.

Her research includes A Reference Book on Balinese Dance and Developing Dance Learning Designs in Primary Schools, as well as academic articles such as Tari Aguru and Facial Makeup Techniques for Balinese Dancers.

Anak Agung Ketut Oka Adnyana, SST., M.Si.

Anak Agung Ketut Oka Adnyana, SST., M.Si. (Gung Oka), born in Panjer, Denpasar, on November 5, 1962, is a lecturer at ISI Bali known for his discipline, responsibility, and passion for artistic creation. He has mastered traditional Balinese dance since elementary school and has been actively creating dance works, both individually and collaboratively, at national and international levels.

He has been teaching in the Dance Department of ISI Bali since 1990. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Dance from STSI Denpasar (1989) and his Master’s degree in Religion and Culture from the Indonesian Hindu University (2016).

He was awarded First Place in the Denpasar City Balinese Language Speech Contest (2020) and Second Place at the Bali Provincial Level (2021).

I Putu Bagus Bang Sada Graha Saputra, S.Sn., M.Sn

I Putu Bagus Bang Sada Graha Saputra, S.Sn., M.Sn., is a choreographer, the founder and leader of the Bang Dance Studio art community, and a young lecturer at ISI Bali since 2019. He completed his Bachelor’s degree at ISI Yogyakarta (2015) and his Master’s degree at the Postgraduate Program of ISI Yogyakarta (2017), majoring in Artistic Creation (Dance).

He has been actively creating contemporary dance works performed at national and international levels from 2014 to 2025. In addition to his creative work, he actively participates in national and international art events, conducts research, publishes scientific works in national journals, holds intellectual property rights (HKI), and engages in community service activities.

I Wayan Adi Gunarta, S.Sn., M.Sn

I Wayan Adi Gunarta, S.Sn., M.Sn., is a choreographer and academic actively engaged in dance research and creation. He completed his Bachelor’s degree at ISI Bali (2011) and his Master’s degree at the Postgraduate Program of ISI Yogyakarta (2013), majoring in Artistic Creation (Dance).

His academic career as a lecturer in the Dance Study Program at ISI Bali began in 2015, and he currently serves as the Head of the Dance Laboratory for the 2021–2025 period. He has created numerous dance works performed at national and international levels, produced scientific publications in national journals, and obtained intellectual property rights (HKI).

He was awarded the Adhyapaka Nata Kerthi Nugraha by ISI Bali as an Outstanding Lecturer (2023) and recognized as a Motivator Civil Servant Lecturer (2024).

Suminto, S.Ag., M.Si.

Suminto, S.Ag., M.Si., was born in Banyuwangi on December 18, 1978. He is a lecturer at ISI Bali with a particular interest in Javanese tembang. He began his career in 2005, teaching in the Dance Study Program.

He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Religious Philosophy from STAHN Denpasar (2004) and a Master’s degree in Cultural Studies from the Faculty of Letters, Udayana University (2011). He has received the Satya Lencana Karya Satya X award in 2023 and the Adhyapaka Nata Kerti Nugraha award in 2024 from ISI Denpasar in recognition of his outstanding performance as a civil servant lecturer.

I Ketut Sutapa, SST., M.Sn

I Ketut Sutapa was born in Denpasar on August 9, 1966. He is a lecturer in the Dance Study Program, actively engaged in creating dance works and conducting research. He completed his Master’s degree at ISI Surakarta in 2007, which strengthened his expertise as a choreographer skilled in innovative contemporary creations.

He has dedicated his knowledge to ISI Bali since 1992. His expertise has been shared in various local and international events, such as mentoring performances for the opening of PKB annually, guiding art teams from Universiti Malaya, Malaysia (2023), and teaching dance in Phetchaburi, Thailand (2025). He has also received an award from ISI Bali for outstanding lecturer performance.

Dr. Ida Ayu Wayan Arya Satyani, S.Sn., M.Sn

Affectionately known as Dayu Ani, she is a lecturer who has been immersed in choreography since the age of 14 at Sanggar Maha Bajra Sandhi. She completed her studies in Artistic Creation at ISI Bali, earning degrees from Bachelor’s to Doctorate level. Her dissertation, completed in 2024, produced the work Gambuh Masutasoma.

She has been involved in numerous notable projects, including Body Tjak: The Celebration with I Wayan Dibia and Keith Terry (San Francisco, 1999), serving as choreographer for The Missing Sun directed by Nelson Chia (Singapore, 2000–2001), participating in the Cultural Olympiad with Maha Bajra Sandhi (Athens, 2004), contributing to the dance film and theater piece The Seen and Unseen directed by Kamila Andini (2017–2021), and the film Samsara by Garin Nugroho (2024).

Gusti Ayu Ketut Suandewi, SST., M.SI

Lahir di Denpasar 12 Juli 1965, menyelesaikan pendidikan SMA di SMKI ( Sekolah Menengah Kejuruan Indonesia)  Jurusan Tari tahun 1986, melanjutkan ke ASTI Jurusan Tari  sebagai mahasiswa TID (Tenaga Ikatan Dinas) dan selesai studi pada  tahun 1990. Diterima sebagai PNS (Dosen) tetap di STSI pada tahun 1992. Melanjutkan kuliah S2 Di Universitas  Udayana Program Studi Kajian Budaya 1999-2001. 

Menghasilkan beberapa penelitian, karya seni, jurnal ilmiah serta HKI, memperoleh beberapa piagam penghargaan sebagai juri tari, penghargaan dari  KBRI di Jerman,  Adyapaka Nata Kerthi Nugraha (Dosen Penggerak, dosen berkinerja sangat baik), Karya Lancana Karya Satya 10 tahun, 20 tahun dan 30 tahun.

Kompiang Gede Widnyana, SST., M Hum.

Kompiang Gede Widnyana lahir di Banjar Munggu, Mengwi, Badung tahun 1963. Lulus dari SMKI tahun 1984 dan melanjutkan studi di ASTI Denpasar, tamat tahun 1988 dengan garapan Ken Arok. Sejak 1991 berkarier sebagai dosen PNS dengan jabatan Lektor. Menyelesaikan pendidikan S2 di Universitas Gadjah Mada, Jurusan Pengkajian Seni Pertunjukan, tahun 1999 dengan tesis I Made Bandem: Tokoh Seniman Bali, Sebuah Biografi. Aktif menulis artikel, jurnal, prosiding, HKI, dan mencipta karya tari. Mengampu mata kuliah teori seni, filsafat tari, estetika tari, kritik tari, serta menerima penghargaan Satya Lancana Karya XXX.

I Wayan Sutirtha, S.Sn., M.Sn

I Wayan Sutirtha bertugas di ISI Bali sejak tahun 2003. Pendidikan S1 di STSI Denpasar  dan pendidikan S2 di ISI Surakarta. Tahun 2001 mendirikan Sanggar Lokananta untuk mencetak pelaku seni penyangga budaya Bali yang adiluhung. Sutirtha kelahiran 1973 di desa Singapadu ini beberapa kali pernah melakukan lawatan dan pentas di negara-negara seperti Jepang, India, Singapore, Australia. Menciptakan berbagai karya yang dipentaskan di event nasional maupun internasional. Tahun 2023 memperoleh penghargaan Satya Lencana Karya Satya X tahun 2023 dan penghargaan Adhyapaka Nata Kerti Nugraha tahun 2024 dari ISI Denpasar sebagai dosen ASN berkinerja sangat baik.
