Study Program

description

The Visual Communication Design (DKV) Study Program at ISI Bali, under the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, is committed to shaping graduates with outstanding creative and technical abilities in designing captivating and innovative visual communication. This program integrates elements of art, design, and technology to produce highly communicative and competitive visual works within the creative industry.

Graduates of the DKV program at ISI Bali will be equipped with in-depth knowledge of design principles, typography, illustration, photography, animation, as well as mastery of the latest design software. In addition, students are trained to understand market needs, target audiences, and global design trends, while still upholding the local Balinese cultural values that serve as a core strength.

Throughout their studies, students will be involved in various challenging design projects, ranging from branding, graphic design, advertising, to digital media. Through hands-on practice and case studies directly related to the industry, they will learn to develop creative ideas into visual works that communicate effectively with diverse audiences.

With a focus on the development of creativity, innovation, and technical skills, the DKV Study Program at ISI Bali prepares students for careers in design, media, advertising, publishing, as well as becoming entrepreneurs in the field of visual communication design.

LECTURER

Visual Communication Design Study Program

Drs. I Nengah Sudika Negara,M.Erg

I Nengah Sudika Negara is a visual communication designer and a lecturer in the Visual Communication Design Study Program, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Bali. Born in Tabanan on November 3, 1966, he completed his Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts and Design at Udayana University in 1991 and earned his Master’s degree in Ergonomics and Work Physiology (M.Erg) in 2008 from the same university. He has served as an adjunct lecturer at Petra Christian University in Surabaya (2013–2016) and as a visiting lecturer at the Indonesian Institute of the Arts and Culture (ISBI) Tanah Papua (2014). Throughout his career at ISI Bali, he has been actively involved in writing books, conducting research, community service, and has received several research grants from the Directorate General of Higher Education (Dikti) and ISI Bali.

Ida Bagus Ketut Trinawindu, S.Sn.,M.Erg

IDA BAGUS KETUT TRINAWINDU is a Visual Communication Designer and a Lecturer in the Visual Communication Design Study Program, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Bali. He was born in Tampaksiring on April 1, 1976, as the fourth child of four siblings. In 2000, he completed his Bachelor’s degree in the Fine Arts and Design Study Program at Udayana University (S.Sn), and in 2008, he continued his studies to earn a Master’s degree in the Ergonomics and Work Physiology Master’s Program at Udayana University (M.Erg). In 2015, he served as a visiting lecturer at the Indonesian Institute of the Arts and Culture (ISBI) Tanah Papua, teaching in the Visual Communication Design Department. During his tenure as a lecturer at ISI Bali, he has published several books and won various design competitions at both local and national levels, as well as served as a judge in several design contests. In addition, he has also received several research grants funded by the Directorate General of Higher Education (Dikti)

Dr. Ni Ketut Rini Astuti, S.Sn.,M.Sn

Ni Ketut Rini Astuti was born in Wates Tengah, Duda Timur Village, Selat District, Karangasem, Bali, on December 2, 1972. She completed her Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts and Design at the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Udayana University, in 1997. In 2005, she was appointed as a lecturer in the Visual Communication Design (VCD) Study Program, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Denpasar. She earned her Master’s degree in Art Studies from the Postgraduate Program at ISI Yogyakarta in 2012. In 2025, she successfully completed her Doctoral Program in Art Studies at the Postgraduate School of ISI Bali with a dissertation entitled “Artistry and Aesthetics of Prasi Works by I Gusti Agung Ngurah in Sidemen Village, Karangasem, Bali.”Currently, she serves as a lecturer in the VCD Study Program, teaching courses such as Two-Dimensional Design, Basic Visual Communication Design, Typography, Design Aesthetics, Balinese Illustration, and Traditional Balinese Comics in the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, ISI Bali. Beyond her academic pursuits, she is also active in writing, creating artworks, and participating in community, cultural, and religious organizations.

Cokorda Alit Artawan, S.Sn., M.Sn.

Engaging in the arts through design, dance, and mask-making is an integral part of life. Having completed postgraduate studies at the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Yogyakarta, the artist is currently pursuing a Doctoral (S3) program at ISI Bali, specializing in Visual Communication Design and Traditional Culture, with a concentration on Balinese traditional illustration works developed through contemporary media. He received the Satyalancana Karya Satya 10-Year Award from the President of the Republic of Indonesia in 2016 and was recognized as a Highly Performing Lecturer by ISI Denpasar in 2023. To date, he holds seven intellectual property rights (HKI) and has participated in several exhibitions, including “Tirta Agra Rupa: The Legacy of Pita Maha Spirit” at ARMA in 2022 and the Solo Mask Exhibition “The Faces of Indonesia: Singapadu – Bali” at The Apurva Kempinski Bali in 2024.

Ni Ketut Pande Sarjani, S.Sn, M.Sn

Born in Tabanan on July 12, 1980, Pande Sarjani is an academic and designer who has served as a lecturer since 2006. He earned his Bachelor’s degree from the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Denpasar in 2004 and completed his Master’s degree in the Art Creation and Study Program at ISI Denpasar in 2013. Currently, he is pursuing a Doctoral degree in Art Studies at ISI Bali. His scholarly and creative work focuses on visual communication and Balinese cultural expression. He has published books such as Packaging of Traditional Balinese Wedding Snacks and Introduction to Visual Communication Design. Pande has participated in national and international exhibitions, including the International Exhibition at OPUA Library, Okinawa University, Japan, and the National Exhibition Adikara Rupa. He has received several national research grants from the Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education and actively serves as a jury member in various Visual Communication Design competitions.

Eldiana Tri Narulita, S.Sn., M.Sn.

Completed a Bachelor’s degree in Visual Communication Design and a Master’s degree in Art Studies at the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Denpasar. She has authored and published several books, including Introduction to Visual Communication Design (Book Chapter), Basic Graphic Design Textbook (Book Chapter), and Traditional Wedding Snack Packaging in Balinese Customary Ceremonies. She has participated in several exhibitions, such as the Exhibition at the OPUA Library, University of Okinawa, Japan (2016), and Adikara Rupa 1 Exhibition (2022). She has also been selected several times for nationally competitive research programs organized by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology. In addition to serving as a jury member in national-level competitions, Eldiana is also actively engaged in writing scholarly articles for academic journals.

Ida Ayu Dwita Krisna Ari, S.Sn., M.Sn.

Ida Ayu Dwita Krisna Ari is a lecturer in the Visual Communication Design (VCD) Study Program, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Bali. She teaches courses in Visual Communication Design, Typography, Sociology of Design, and Aesthetics. Her area of expertise focuses on Popular Culture Studies. She is actively engaged in writing scholarly articles published in accredited academic journals, exploring topics related to popular culture such as mural design analysis, studies of truck art, and social media illustration. Her most recent book, Balinese Language Texts on T-Shirts (An Art Studies Perspective), was published in early 2025. She is actively involved in supervising the Student Creativity Program (PKM) at the national level and serves as a national reviewer for PKM as well as a national supervisor for the Kampus Mengajar program organized by the Ministry of Higher Education.

I Gusti Ngurah Wirawan, S.Sn., M.Sn.

Sebagai Dosen di Prodi Desain Komunikasi Visual, Institut Seni Indonesia Bali dengan pendidikan terakhir S2 di Program Pasca Sarjana,pada Prodi Penciptaan dan Pengkajian Seni, memiliki minat dalam bidang identitas visual. Peraih finalis logo dan maskot Paviliun Indonesia Expo 2020 Dubai, ini juga terlibat dalam pembuatan desain exterior, desain livery dan identitas visual Bus Listrik Merah Putih yang digunakan pada KTT G20, merancang identitas visual pada produk Joran Sisik Barong Relix Nusantara, sebagai creative design dalam pembuatan buku Biografi Visual I Dewa Nyoman Batuan ( Penerbit Yayasan Sinergi Widya Nusantara ) dan menerbitkan buku Kartun Strip; Membaca Kartun Media Massa ( Penerbit Pusat Penerbitan LPP2MPP ISI Denpasar), Sastra Rupa cerita Rakyat Bali ( Penerbit Madza Media ). Sebelum menjadi seorang pengajar, telah terlebih dahulu menjadi desianer di PT. Putra Ganda ( Tiga Grafis ), BJ Grafika, Jones Picha dan Bali Weekly. Selain kegiatan akademis, juga berperan aktif dalam berkesenian baik Budaya dan Agama.

Agus Ngurah Arya Putraka, S.Sn., M.Sn.

Completed a Master’s degree in Art Studies at the Postgraduate Program of the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Denpasar in 2014, and has served as a lecturer in the Visual Communication Design Study Program, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, ISI Denpasar since 2015. Her area of expertise focuses on branding within the field of Visual Communication Design. She was recognized with the Outstanding Lecturer Performance Award in 2023 and was appointed as a Lecturer Innovator in 2024. She has produced various design works, including logotypes, logograms, and visual communication media designs. In addition, several of her research projects have been published, such as The Aesthetics of Balinese Anti-Reclamation Illustrations, The Visual Aesthetics of Gong Lelengisan, and The Service Standard Workflow of the Indonesian Institute of the Arts Denpasar, along with other ongoing studies.

Dr. I Wayan Nuriarta, S.Pd., M.Sn.

I Wayan Nuriarta is a lecturer in the Visual Communication Design Study Program, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Bali. He earned his Doctoral degree (Ph.D.) in Cultural Studies from Udayana University, Bali, in 2024, with a dissertation entitled “Articulation of Identity in the Mahabharata Epic Wayang Comics in Indonesia.” Graduating with cum laude honors, Nuriarta specializes in the field of Visual Culture Studies. Among his notable achievements is winning first place in a logo design competition organized by the Provincial Government of Bali. His authored book titled “Cartoon[and]News” was selected and acquired by the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN). In addition to serving as a jury member and speaker on visual culture at both national and international levels, Nuriarta actively publishes scholarly articles, including works featured in Scopus Q1-indexed journals. He is also a prolific author of books focusing on visual culture, encompassing comics, cartoons, and visual design.

Gede Bayu Segara Putra, S.Ds., M.Sn.

Born in Denpasar on March 21, 1993, Gede Bayu Segara Putra is a visual designer and academic whose scientific publications focus on studies of visual communication media. After completing his Bachelor’s degree in Visual Communication Design in 2015 and his Master’s degree in Art Creation and Study in 2017 at the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Denpasar, he is currently pursuing a Doctoral degree in Design at ISI Bali. Bayu Segara also serves as a mentor and judge in design competitions at both regional and national levels, and actively participates in various local, national, and international art and design exhibitions. For his dedication to institutional advancement, he received the Adhyapaka Nata Kerthi Nugraha award as a Motivator Lecturer from ISI Bali.

Putu Gde Satria Kharismawan, M.Sn.

Putu Gde Satria Kharismawan, M.Sn., earned his Master of Arts degree from the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Denpasar in 2018—prior to its transition to ISI Bali—with a concentration in Art Studies. He possesses expertise in the fields of Visual Communication Design and Photography. In addition to being an active speaker at various national seminars, he has also been entrusted as an official photographer for several prestigious international events, including the G20 and ASEAN Summits. Several of his photographic works have been granted Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) protection. Furthermore, he has contributed to research projects, including the design and development of books aimed at supporting the growth of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Badung and Gianyar Regencies. His dedication is reflected through his active involvement in the realms of art, research, and the advancement of visual creativity in Indonesia.

I Kadek Jayendra Dwi Putra, S.Ds.,M.Sn.

Jayendra, born in Denpasar on May 3, 1993, is an academic and lecturer in Visual Communication Design (VCD). He specializes in advertising and illustration, with a particular focus on developing visual concepts that are both communicative and aesthetically engaging. Throughout his career, Jayendra has achieved several accomplishments, including winning the “Joyful Denpasar” logo design competition and creating illustration designs for UTme! Uniqlo Bali. His works embody a harmonious integration of local cultural values with contemporary visual approaches. As an educator, he is committed to nurturing a generation of designers who are critical, innovative, and ethical in navigating the dynamics of the creative industry.

Putu Wahyuning Sri Purnami, S.Ds., M.Sn

Putu Wahyuning Sri Purnami, S.Ds., M.Sn., is a lecturer in the Visual Communication Design Study Program at the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Bali. She actively teaches courses in graphic design, branding, and digital communication strategy. In addition to her academic career, she is also a design and digital marketing practitioner with extensive experience in developing visual identities and creative campaigns for various brands and institutions. She is committed to guiding students to think strategically and creatively in responding to the evolving challenges of the creative industry.

Rizkita Ayu Mutiarani, S.Sn., M.Sn

Rizkita Ayu Mutiarani, S.Sn., M.Sn., has been a lecturer in the Visual Communication Design Study Program at the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Bali since 2025. She completed her Bachelor’s degree (S1) in Visual Communication Design and her Master’s degree (S2) in Art Studies at the Indonesian Institute of the Arts Denpasar. She is actively engaged in research and community service programs aligned with her field of expertise.
