DesCRIPTION

The Photography Study Program is one of the flagship programs under the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design at the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Bali. As a higher education institution specializing in the arts, ISI Bali plays a strategic role in developing human resources who are creative, innovative, and globally competitive, while upholding local cultural values.

The Photography Study Program is an important part of this mission, considering that photography is a visual medium that is not only artistic but also scientific, communicative, and capable of bridging various fields of modern life.

VISION

The Photography Study Program is one of the flagship programs under the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design at the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Bali. As a higher education institution specializing in the arts, ISI Bali plays a strategic role in developing human resources who are creative, innovative, and globally competitive, while maintaining respect for local cultural values.

The Photography Study Program is a vital part of this mission, as photography serves not only as an artistic medium but also as a scientific and communicative tool capable of bridging various aspects of modern life.

Graduate Profile

Researcher and Mentor

Graduates have the ability to become researchers, writers, educators (academics), curators, and concept developers in the field of photography. They can serve as resource persons or consultants who support the development of photography from both theoretical and practical perspectives.

Creator and Presenter

Graduates are trained to become skilled photographers who are able to formulate photographic knowledge into creative and innovative practice. They can work in the fields of commercial photography, photojournalism, and art photography, and are capable of producing works that have both artistic and communicative value.

Entrepreneurship

With managerial and technical skills as their foundation, graduates are capable of becoming contractors and entrepreneurs in the field of photography. They can manage photo studios, documentation services, printing businesses, photography equipment rentals, as well as develop creative content on social media at local, national, and even international levels.

Photography Study Program

Amoga Lelo Octaviano

Amoga Lelo Octaviano was born in Yogyakarta on October 16, 1977. He earned his Master’s degree in Art Creation and Study from the Postgraduate Program of the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Yogyakarta in 2009. Since 2010, he has served as a lecturer in the Photography Study Program at the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Bali. In addition to teaching, he contributes as the managing editor of Retina: Journal of Photography (the e-journal of the Photography Program, ISI Denpasar). Amoga remains actively engaged in photographic creation and has participated in numerous local, national, and international photography exhibitions.

Dr. I Made Bayu Pramana, S.Sn., M.Sn.

A lecturer in the field of photographic creation and studies, he completed his Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral degrees in the same discipline. He received the Adhyapaka Nata Kerti Nugraha award as an Outstanding Civil Servant Lecturer and ISI Bali Motivator in 2023 and 2024, as well as the Satya Lencana Karya Satya 10-Year Service Medal. He is actively engaged in research and creative work in photography, focusing on Balinese visual culture, the history of photography, and photographic study methodologies. His scholarly works have been published in national and international journals, including the book Fotografi Orientalistik Pariwisata Bali Era Kolonial (Orientalist Photography of Balinese Tourism in the Colonial Era), which highlights his academic dedication.

I Made Saryana, S.Sn., M.Sn.

Born in Badung on June 24, 1966, he is a lecturer at the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Bali, specializing in photography. His works and research explore various cultural and environmental themes, such as Barong as an Inspiration in Graphic Art, Beauty Behind Tragedy, and Sekala Niskala, which reflects the balance of life in Balinese Hindu society. He also explores expressive photography through works themed Karmaphala and The Impact of Inorganic Waste, and has designed photographic illustrations for cultural tourism at Tanah Lot and Taman Ayun. In addition, he is the author of the book Seni Lukis Batuan (Batuan Painting Art) and has exhibited his work Ngurip Angga.

Dr. Putu Agus Bratayadnya, S.S., M.Hum

A lecturer with expertise in linguistics, particularly in translation, with Sinta ID 6751499. He earned his Doctoral degree (Ph.D.) from Udayana University in 2022 and was awarded 3rd place as Best Lecturer in 2013. Commonly known as Agus Brata, he has completed 720 hours of IELTS training at the State University of Malang, funded by the Directorate General of Higher Education (Dikti). He was also selected as a featured writer by the Balai Bahasa Bali for his work Konser ala Putu dan Si Anjing Kacang (“Putu’s Concert and the Local Dog”). Currently, Agus Brata’s interests focus on teaching Indonesian for Speakers of Other Languages (BIPA) and scriptwriting.

Anis Raharjo, S.Sn., M.Sn

Born in Bantul on June 10, 1975, he is a lecturer at the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Bali, specializing in photographic studies. Educational Background: Bachelor’s Degree (S1) in Photography, ISI Yogyakarta. Master’s Degree (S2) in Art Creation, Postgraduate Program, ISI Yogyakarta. Research Works: P2S – DIPA ISI Denpasar: Pluralism in Expressive Photographic Works. Tubuh Getir (The Bitter Body): Creative Work in Expressive Photography. Elaboration of the Negative Impact of Inorganic Waste: Creative Work in Expressive Photography. Tolerance in Multiculturalism: Creative Work in Expressive Photography. He actively participates in photography exhibitions both nationally and internationally. Courses Taught: Photo Composition, Methodology of Photographic Studies, Basic Photography Techniques, Communication Theory, Expedition Photography, Documentary Performance Photography, and Still Life Photography.

Farhan Adityasmara, S.Sn., M.Sn.

Born in Malang in 1984, he is a lecturer at the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Bali, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, in the Photography Study Program. He completed both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees at ISI Yogyakarta in the field of Photographic Creation and Studies. He is actively engaged in teaching, research, and the creation of photographic artworks, focusing on Expressive Photography, Old Printing Techniques, Philosophy of Photography, and Conceptual Photography. In 2024, he participated in the Bali Bhuwana Kanthi International Photography Exhibition. In 2025, he served as a speaker at the International Photo Festival under the theme ISI Bali: Shaping the Future & Old Printmaking Techniques, as part of the Fotobali Festival. His publications in national journals, along with his participation in photography and contemporary art exhibitions, reflect his dedication to both academia and the arts—particularly in the field of photography.

I Made Adi Dharmawan, S.Sn.,M.Sn.

Born in Kupang in 1992, he grew up with a deep passion for the art of painting with light. He completed his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees at the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Bali and, since 2016, has dedicated himself as a lecturer in the Photography Study Program at ISI Bali. His love for photography has led him to actively participate in various exhibitions, serve as a speaker, and act as a judge in local, national, and international photography competitions. Among his notable achievements are First Place in the Presidential Cup Photography Competition, First Place in the Lecturer Category of the Ministry of Education and Culture’s Photography Contest, and several other awards. Currently, in addition to teaching, he actively collaborates with the Ministry of Tourism of the Republic of Indonesia in producing photographic content for promoting Indonesian tourism—exploring the archipelago and capturing the beauty of Indonesia through the lens of photography.

I Gede Dalem Suardita, S.Sn., M.Sn

I Gede Dalem Suardita, S.Sn., M.Sn., is a photography lecturer at the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Bali. He completed both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Photography at ISI Bali. During his studies, Gede Dalem was highly active in photography competitions and received several awards—an experience that inspired him to pursue a career as an educator at ISI Bali. Expressive Photography has always been his particular passion; throughout his undergraduate and postgraduate studies, he consistently sought to convey his personal reflections and concerns through expressive photographic works. Many of his works have been published in journals and showcased in photography exhibitions. Some of the notable national and international exhibitions he has participated in include Nara Bhuwana Charma: “Ekspresi Manusia Lintas Dunia” and Bali Photo Week 2025: “Aumening Rasa Dedesing Rupa.” Currently, Gede Dalem has developed a growing interest in the field of sports photography.
