Study Program

description

The Craft Study Program at the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Denpasar, was established in 1988 under the name Seni Rupa Kriya (Craft Fine Arts) at ASTI Denpasar, and was initially part of the Performing Arts Program. When ASTI Denpasar changed its status to STSI Denpasar, the program also changed its name to the Craft Arts Study Program (Program Studi Seni Kriya).

In 2002, two art education institutions—STSI Denpasar and PSSRD Udayana University—were merged in an effort to establish ISI Denpasar. The Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Denpasar was officially established in 2003 based on the DIKTI permit No. 304/D/T/2022 and Presidential Decree No. 33 of 2003. Following this, the Craft Arts Study Program was renamed Craft Department/Study Program (Jurusan/Program Studi Kriya Seni) under the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design (FSRD) at ISI Denpasar, in accordance with the nomenclature of DIKTI (Directorate General of Higher Education). In 2018, the name was again revised to its current form: Craft Study Program, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Denpasar, following updated DIKTI nomenclature.

The Craft Study Program offers craft development based on local wisdom in line with the vision and mission of the institution. The program is committed to preserving the nation’s rich cultural heritage and aspires to become a global benchmark in the field of craft development. In addition to expertise in handmade crafts, the program also offers mastery of multimedia and computer-based skills aligned with the demands of the professional job market.

The Craft Study Program is supported by competent lecturers who specialize in various Areas of Expertise. These groups enable focused research development within craft disciplines and facilitate the exploration of new issues in the broader context of craft and other academic fields.

The program also collaborates with leading industry partners in the field of crafts. This collaboration encompasses various activities under the Merdeka Belajar – Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) program, such as internships, independent projects, research, entrepreneurship, humanitarian projects, teaching assistance, and thematic community service (KKN Tematik). These initiatives provide students with opportunities to professionally apply and further develop their academic knowledge in real-world settings.

VISION

By 2025, to become a centre of excellence in the creation, study, and presentation of craft (kriya), rooted in local wisdom with a global perspective.
