Architecture Undergraduate Study Program Indonesian Institute of the Arts Bali

The Architecture Undergraduate Study Program was established based on the Decree of the Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia Number: 336/B/O/2025. Situated under the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design at the Indonesian Institute of the Arts Bali, this study program is designed to develop architectural knowledge and skills grounded in the values of art, local culture, and the wisdom of traditional Balinese architecture, while integrating technology, contemporary innovation, and sustainable design approaches in spatial and built environment planning.

The program is supported by competent and multidisciplinary human resources. The teaching staff consists of academics and practitioner partners with backgrounds in architecture, fine arts, interior design, landscape architecture, and cultural studies. The lecturers are graduates of reputable universities and are actively engaged in research and professional practice. This combination of expertise enables the development of a holistic, contextual, and adaptive curriculum that responds to global dynamics as well as local needs.

The Architecture Undergraduate Study Program at the Indonesian Institute of the Arts Bali focuses on architectural studies and design based on the profound wisdom of Balinese craftsmanship, Nusantara (Indonesian archipelago) architecture, and innovative sustainable design. The curriculum explores the diversity of Balinese and Nusantara wisdom, including craftsmanship, modern Balinese architecture, Nusantara architecture, and modern architecture. The program prioritizes architectural studies and designs oriented toward humanistic values, local cultural conservation, environmental sustainability, and the utilization of digital technology.

VISION

To become an Architecture Study Program based on the profound wisdom of Balinese craftsmanship, Nusantara architecture, and sustainable design, characterized by excellence and global reputation.

MISSION

  • To deliver higher education in architecture at KKNI Level 6 through learning, research, and architectural design based on the profound wisdom of Balinese craftsmanship, Nusantara architecture, and innovative sustainable design;

  • To conduct research and community service that have a meaningful impact on society; and

  • To establish collaborations with reputable practitioners, professionals, and the business and industrial world (DUDI) to develop architectural knowledge, practice, and institutional capacity.

Researchers and Mentors

Researchers and mentors possess competencies as architectural analysts projected to become researchers, writers, curators, planners, and architectural academicians. These competencies include mastery of research methodologies, analytical skills, and the ability to formulate and discover innovative architectural solutions.

Designers

Designers possess competencies in architectural planning and realization, projected to become building architects, landscape architects, and urban planners. These competencies include mastery of theories, concepts, principles, and technical skills in architectural design based on digital technology.

Entrepreneur

Entrepreneurs possess competencies in architectural management, projected to become contractors, developers, event organizers, and architectural material entrepreneurs. These competencies include production, promotion, marketing, and project management.

Architecture Study Program

Toddy Hendrawan Yupardhi, S.Sn., M.Ds

Toddy Hendrawan Yupardhi, S.Sn., M.Ds completed his undergraduate studies (Bachelor’s degree) in the Interior Design Program at the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Denpasar in 2004, and earned his Master’s degree in Design from the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) in 2013. He is currently pursuing his Doctoral studies in Design at ISI Bali, while also serving as the Coordinator of the Architecture Study Program at ISI Bali for the 2025–2030 term. He has been actively publishing scientific papers in several national journals since 2015 and regularly participates in exhibitions, particularly in the fields of interior design and furniture, at local, national, and international levels. Published work: Book chapter: Interior Design (Theory and Its Development).

Ir. Mercu Mahadi, M.T.

Ir. Mercu Mahadi, M.T. was born in Denpasar in 1962. He completed his Bachelor’s degree in Architecture at the Faculty of Engineering, Dwijendra University, Denpasar, in 1992, and obtained his Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, with a concentration in Construction Management, from Udayana University, Denpasar, in 2009.

Since 1994, he has been appointed as a permanent lecturer at the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Bali, where he continues to teach to this day. He has been actively engaged in independent and competitive research projects and frequently writes scientific articles published in local, national, and international journals. Published textbook (ISBN): Training in Drawing Traditional Balinese Ornaments at Dharmajati II Foundation, Denpasar.

Dr. I Made Agus Mahendra,S.T.,M.Sc

I Made Agus Mahendra is a lecturer at the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Denpasar, actively teaching in the Interior Design and Architecture Study Programs. He earned his Bachelor’s degree (2008) and Master’s degree (2010) in Architecture from Gadjah Mada University, and completed his Doctoral degree in Engineering Science with a concentration in Architecture at Udayana University on November 23, 2020.

An active member of the Indonesian Institute of Architects (IAI), he holds an Architect Registration Certificate (STRA) with an expert qualification level 8. Combining professional practice and academic work, Mahendra is committed to integrating architectural theory and practice. His research focuses on smart architectural innovation and sustainable construction materials, with findings published in national and international journals.

Ida Ayu Anindya Chintya Aridewi, S.Ds., M.Ds

Ida Ayu Anindya Chintya Aridewi is a lecturer at the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Bali. She was born in Denpasar on December 3, 1998, and actively teaches in the Interior Design and Architecture Study Programs. She completed her Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design at ISI Denpasar in 2021 and earned her Master’s degree in Design from the same institution in 2023.

She has published several scientific works in local and national journals, as well as book publications, including “Anthropometry and Acoustic Review at the Auditorium Seat of Giri Nata Mandala Culture Center,” “Design of Open Space Patterns in Type-100 Residential Houses Based on the Bali Madya Concept in Realizing Sustainable Development (SDGs),” and a book chapter: “Interior Design (Theory and Its Development).”

Putu Ari Darmastuti, M.Sn

Putu Ari Darmastuti, M.Sn. is a lecturer specializing in interior design. She completed her Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design at the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Denpasar in 2014, followed by a Master of Arts degree at the same institution, graduating in 2017. After working for approximately five years in a design firm, she chose to pursue a career as both a lecturer and an independent interior designer. She teaches the Explorative Interior Design course and remains actively involved in designing various commercial and residential projects. In addition to teaching and professional practice, Ari is also a prolific writer. Her academic publications include several scientific articles and textbooks such as Introduction to 3D Interior Design Using SketchUp & Enscape (2024), and she contributed as a co-author to the book Interior Design: Theory and Its Development (2024). For her, design is not merely a matter of aesthetics, but the result of mastery of theory, technical insight, and sensitivity to spatial needs and user experience.
