Description

The Undergraduate Program in English Language and Culture at the Institut Seni Indonesia Bali (ISI Bali) is a newly established study program within the institution. The program is designed to produce professional and competent graduates with a focus on English Language, (Applied) Linguistics, Literature (Arts), and Culture. A distinctive advantage of this program, compared to similar programs elsewhere, lies in the integration of knowledge enrichment, practical experience, and an academic ecosystem grounded in Balinese arts and culture, which are internationally recognized. This unique integration constitutes added value that can only be obtained by studying English at ISI Bali.

Graduates are awarded the academic degree of Sarjana Linguistik (S.Li.), with prospects to actively contribute to the field of English Language and Culture, complemented by knowledge of national (Indonesian) language and culture as well as local (Balinese) linguistic and cultural contexts. Graduates of the English Language and Culture Program at ISI Bali are expected to be capable of conducting critical and contextual analyses of contemporary phenomena in the field of English language and culture, including well-known aspects of British popular culture.

The learning outcomes of this program are aligned with Level 6 of the Indonesian National Qualifications Framework (Kerangka Kualifikasi Nasional Indonesia/KKNI). The career prospects of graduates encompass three principal components reflected in the curriculum of the English Language and Culture Program, namely as Scholars (Pengkaji), Creators (Pencipta), and Presenters (Penyaji).

VISION

To become a leading Study Program in English Language and Culture at the local, national, and global levels, responsive to contemporary developments, by integrating and harmonizing English Language and Culture studies with National (Indonesian) Language and Culture as well as Local (Balinese) Language and Culture.

MISSION

  • To realize the implementation of high-quality higher education in the field of English Language and Culture, with a focused approach on Language skills (Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking), Applied Linguistics, Literature (Arts), and English Culture, harmonized with National (Indonesian) and Local (Balinese) Languages and Cultures.

  • To develop and sustain high-quality research, creative works, and scholarly presentations, as well as to actively engage in community service, in support of education in the discipline of English Language and Culture, grounded in the advancement of science and technology (IPTEKS).

  • To promote the publication of research findings and creative works in English Language and Culture through scholarly journals by leveraging the application of technology.

English Language and Culture Study Program 

Dr. Putu Agus Bratayadnya, S.S., M.Hum

Dr. Putu Agus Bratayadnya, S.S., M.Hum., affectionately known as Bapak Agus Brata, has been a lecturer of English Language and Literature at ISI Bali since 2008. Hailing from Ubud, this distinguished academic earned his Doctoral degree from Udayana University in 2022, specializing in Applied Linguistics with a focus on translation studies. His professional background is marked by a strong track record of expertise, ranging from intensive IELTS training to the study of endangered languages at SOAS University of London.

His international career was notably highlighted in 2010 when he served as a speaker at the University of Western Australia. In addition to securing internal research grants related to educational technology and tourism analysis, he is also a gifted writer. Agus Brata successfully won the Balai Bahasa Bali Children’s Novel Competition for two consecutive years (2024–2025), with his work “Si Anjing Kacang” ranking among the top 10 national best. Currently, holding Sinta ID 6751499, he focuses his research on Indonesian for Speakers of Other Languages (BIPA), a subject he has presented at various international forums.

Prof. Dr. Ni Ketut Dewi Yulianti, S.S., M.Hum., M.Sn

Prof. Dr. Ni Ketut Dewi Yulianti, S.S., M.Hum., M.Sn., born in Karangasem (1973), is a Professor of Cultural Linguistics active at ISI Denpasar and Triatma Mulya University. This multi-talented academic completed her Master’s and Doctoral studies in Linguistics at Udayana University and earned a Master of Arts from ISI Bali with her innovative dance drama work, “The Blessing of Siva–Visvapujita.” Before dedicating herself to academia, she gained extensive professional experience as a radio announcer, tour guide, and TVRI presenter (until 2023).

As a researcher, Prof. Dewi has secured various grants from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, as well as two PISN grants (2025). Her English-language artistic works, such as “The Search for Sita,” were performed at the international Ramayana Mela in India (2025). In addition to being a BIPA instructor and the owner of Deva Devi English Course, she is also recognized as a champion in storytelling, stand-up comedy, and poetry writing, demonstrating a remarkable fusion of linguistic expertise and artistic creativity.

Ni Putu Tisna Andayani, S.S., M.Hum.

Tisna Andayani, born in Denpasar (1978), has been a lecturer in the Karawitan (Traditional Music) Study Program at ISI Bali since 2005. An expert in Applied Linguistics with a concentration in Translation Studies, she completed her undergraduate degree in English Literature at Warmadewa University (2002) and her Master’s degree at Yogyakarta State University (2014). Her thesis delved into the sociocultural equivalence of the Lubdaka play translation across three languages. In addition to holding a TESOL certification from Sydney (2010), she is an active member of KIPBIPA Bali, specializing in teaching Indonesian to speakers of other languages.

Beyond academia, Tisna is a talented vocal artist who released the indie album “Pujangga Terbuang” (2004) and the Balinese-language album “Ke Lain Body” (2007). Her prowess in public speaking has led to frequent appointments as a singing judge, moderator, and Master of Ceremony (MC) for prestigious events, such as the XII Indonesian Arts Festival (2023) and a colossal performance in Lampung (2024). Her profile represents a harmonious blend of linguistic expertise, musical arts, and professional communication skills.

Dewa Made Agustawan

Dewa Made Agustawan, born in Bangli (1990), is a lecturer in the Performing Arts Education Study Program at ISI Bali. He completed his undergraduate studies in English Language Education at Ganesha University of Education, before pursuing a Master’s degree in Linguistics with a concentration in Translation Studies at Udayana University. In addition to his teaching duties, he is highly productive in academic writing. His scholarly articles, which focus on translation phenomena in various texts, have been published in reputable international journals as well as SINTA-accredited national journals. His dedication reflects a seamless integration of linguistic proficiency and critical analysis within the field of performing arts.

Ni Luh Ayu Cempaka Dewi, S.S., M.Hum.

Ni Luh Ayu Cempaka Dewi, S.S., M.Hum., born in Denpasar (1986), is an English lecturer at ISI Bali, primarily affiliated with the Puppetry Arts (Seni Pedalangan) Study Program. She earned her Master’s degree in Translation Studies from Udayana University. Her academic excellence is distinguished by the Adhyapaka Nata Kerthi Nugraha award, recognizing her as an Outstanding Non-ASN Lecturer for two consecutive years (2023–2024). Her research focuses on translation and English-language dance drama, providing significant contributions to the advancement of artistic studies and the internationalization of performing arts at ISI Bali.
